AHMEDABAD: Although a local court issued summon to BJP chief Amit Shah to appear as a defense witness in a Gujarat 2002 riot case , sources hinted that it will depend upon him , whether to appear or not , in the Gujarat riot related case on September 18 , 2017 .

A court  issued summon  to BJP president Amit Shah to appear in a case related to 2002 Gujarat riots .The BJP leader will appear as the defense witness .The court directed the BJP leader to be present in the court on September 18 , 2017.

Former Gujarat minister Maya Kodnani has been sentenced to life imprisonment in Naroda  Patya mass murder case during Gujarat riots 2002.Maya Kodnani through his lawyer requested to the court to issue summon to Amit Shah to appear in the court.


Why Summon Issued?

Kodnani’s lawyer Amit  Patel moved the court today for issuing summon to the BJP president .On September 8, 2017, she told the court that she did not get the address on which this summon can be sent and she could not contact Mr.Amit Shah.

But, today her lawyer Patel said that summon can be send at Amit Shah’s Ahmedabad address. He submitted before the court the residential address of Amit Shah in Thaltej Area of Ahmedabad.The court issued the summon to BJP chief at this address.

Earlier, Maya Kodnani failed to give the address of Amit Shah .Her advocate had twice sought time .On each occasion, he was gioven 4 days to get the  residential address of BJP chief Amit Shah in Ahmedabad .


Maya Kodnani  wants Amit Shah to depose on her behalf as defense witness .But the media reports indicate that it will dependent on Mr.Amit Shah now , if he wants to depose or not .

The court has allowed her  plea in April 2017 , to issue summon to the BJP leader to appear as the defense witness in this case .

Murder of 11 Muslims

On February 28, 2002, during Gujarat riots, a day after the Sabarmati Express was torched, 11 Muslim were killed at Naroda -Patia in Ahmedabad. The case was registered against 82 accused person.Maya Kodnani was  charged with conspiracy of murders in Naroda Gam case.
