WHO SELECTS MEMBERS OF HAJ DELEGATION & HOW ?

New Delhi : Every year a Haj delegation is sent by Government of India .Nobody know what are the basis of selection to this Haj delegation .It also remains unknown who are the persons  going as part of Haj delegation .

An RTI application was filed in 2012 by Mr. Abdul Rashid Hanjura , a social activist who sought information from PMO .He sought information about Haj Goodwill delegation and procedure to get nominated for this .He alleged that only politically influential people are selected as members of this delegation .He applied for being nominated to such delegation but did not get even the reply .Therefore , he sought information through RTI .

He was informed that 20 to 35 persons of eminence are selected for this delegation The decision is made at the highest level with approval of PM .The appellant filed appeal in CIC which directed PMO to post rules and procedure of selection at the PMO website .PIO PMO was also directed to display the names of members of haj delegation at website .But are these orders being followed?

Decision:

The Appeal is allowed.

The Commission directs the PIO of Prime Minister’s Office to ensure that the process of selection of Haj Goodwill Delegation and the names of the members are displayed on the website of the PMO.

This order is being given by the Commission under its powers under Section 19(8)(a) of the RTI Act. This is a requirement of Section 4 of the RTI Act. It would ensure the above information is updated every year.

This decision is announced in open chamber.

Notice of this decision be given free of cost to the parties.

Any information in compliance with this Order will be provided free of cost as per Section 7(6) of RTI Act.
