NEW DELHI: Did you know that a part of Rashtrapati Bhavan, Indian Parliament House, Supreme Court of India Building are all constructed on Wakf land?
This startling fact was revealed by Maulana Syed Mohammed Wali Rehmani, a cleric from Bihar, who alleged that government departments and corporates have encroached upon the Wakf properties not only in New Delhi, but at many places in the country.
According to him, many structures located on Bahadur Shah Zafar Road, New Delhi were also constructed on Wakf Land.
These include Pant Hospital, Maulana Azad Medical College, Jai Prakash Narain Hospital, Link House, Nanak Hall, Offices of National Herald, Gandhi Peace Foundation Offices, Indian Express Group Offices to name a few.
He has blamed the previous government for such blatant encroachment of Wakf land on a very large scale. Many Muslim leaders allege that governments are not serious about protection and rehabilitation of Wakf Properties.
It is alleged that powerful and resourceful politicians, industrialists and businessmen are real culprits behind the encroachment of Wakf properties.
The fact, according to some activists, is that the government and politicians themselves protected the ‘Wakf Land Mafia’, therefore today 80 to 90 % of Wakf land in many states have been encroached or leased out at very cheap rates.
There is more than Six Lakh Acres of Wakf land in the country. However governments are not paying attention to the demands of a proper survey of all Wakf lands in all states as well as union territories.
If such a survey is undertaken, it is assumed that the real quantum of Wakf properties in the country will be known. Activists are also demanding that governments must put all the records pertaining to Wakf Properties on the digital space.
”It will show the world that how the governments also have grabbed the Wakf properties”, said Maulana Wali Rehmani.
