BANGALURU: Security was tightened in Karnataka on the occasion of Tipu Sultan Jayanti as miscreants and right wing tried to disrupt the celebrations by violence and protests. More than 150 BJP workers were arrested in Hubli for pelting stones at state road transport buses.
Many responsible citizens condemned protests and violence resorted by BJP ,RSS and right wing organizations in the name of opposition to Tipu Sultan Jayanti celebrations .
BJP,RSS and other communal organizations are opposing the Tipu Sultan Jayanti for the last so many days therefore additional security forces were deployed in many cities and districts of the state to ensure peace .
Additional forces comprising of 200 platoons of state armed police force and 6000 home guards have been posted at various sensitive areas and they will be deployed till Saturday morning so that they can avert any untoward incident , the sources in state police said .
The official function of Tipu Sultan Jayanti begins at 6.30 pm on Friday .In Madekari town of Kodagu district sec144 of Cr.PC has been enforced as preventive measure. This town which is 250 km away from Bengaluru was hit by violence in 2105 . Huge police force has been deployed in the town today .
Some miscreants pelted stones at vehicles and buses .More than 200 BJP , RSS workers were detained when they tried to disrupt traffic .There are reports that BJP ,RSS protesters were detained in many cities when they tried to protest against Tipu Sultan Jayanti by breaking preventive laws .
In the state capital Bengaluru , more than 11 thousand police and security personnel have been deployed to maintain peace .The central government has also sent some companies of central police forces to help state police maintain peace .These central police force companies are also deployed in the 10 sensitive districts of the state , police sources said .
