MUMBAI: Dawood Ibrahim’s younger brother Iqbal Kaskar  , after he came to India in 2003 , was arrested in Sara – Sahara complex case but the MCOCA court acquitted him in 2007 because Mumbai police could not prove charges against him in this case  .

It is said that Sara – Sahara case was the first case in which any of Dawood’s  siblings  was made an accused  under MCOCA .Despite the stringent law of MCOCA  applied against Iqbal Kaskar inthis case , the court discharged him , and observed that police could not prove charges of threatening as well as illegal construction against Iqbal Kaskar .

It was not asked by media and government , why Mumbai police failed to make a case against Iqbal Kaskar and if there was no sufficient proof against him , why he was implicated in the case ?

In June 2007 , Iqbal Kaskar along with a builder Ghulam Ali Ramzan Tanwar  and 4 other BMC officials  Narender  Rajbhar , Hasmukh Shah ,Kiran  Achrekar  , Shirish Salvekar  were acquitted in Sara-Sahara case by a MCOCA court .

The  MCOCA  court said that police and prosecution produced 66 tapes ( transcripts of  talk on phones ) as evidence against Iqbal Kaskar but could not prove Kaskar’s involvement in the case though the voice in tapes were of his only .

”The conversation nowhere shows that Kaskar was involved in the illegal construction of Sara-Sahara complex and threatening to people as alleged by the police in the case .There was no cognizance, no pecuniary benefit in the crime .the MOCOCA judge observed in the judgment .Police in this case had largely relied on the tape recorded talks against Iqbal Kaskar as evidence.

After Sara Sahara case verdict, a complaint was lodged against Iqbal Kaskar in February 2015 .A case of threatening was registered at J J Marg police station against him .After his deportation from Dubai to India in 2003 and his arrest in Sara Sahara case , the first complaint of extortion against Iqbal Kaskar was lodged in 2015  for a paltry sum of Rs. 3 lakhs  only .Now , he has been arrested by Thane police on the charges of extortion once again .
