MUMBAI : The MNS movement against illegal hawkers is being broadened and widened by the MNS leadership while two clashes between hawkers and MNS workers have threatened the law and order situation not only in Mumbai , but also in Thane and other cities as well.
Only last month , MNS workers evicting the hawkers from the Malad railway station area were attacked by hawkers .Tension prevailed in this suburb for a week as the local leader of MNS was seriously injured in this attack .
This was the first incident when MNS workers were resisted by hawkers .The MNS workers who instead of forcing police and BMC officials to evict the illegal hawkers ,
took law into themselves after the Elphinstone Road stampede .
MNS workers faced another resistance, this time in eastern suburban area Vikhroli .These two incidents have alarmed the bells in the city .
It is reported that those hawkers who are challenging
the MNS workers are being supported by Congress city Chief Sanjay Nirupam .So , it is feared that such clashes can turn into political violence in the coming days .
The after the Vikhroli clash between MNS workers and hawkers on Sunday , police imposed prohibitory orders under section 144 , so as to prevent such incidents.
The MNS workers blamed a local Congress leader Abdul Ansari for the arrack who according to them controls more than 600 hawkers in the area. Mumbai Congress Chief Sanjay Nirupam who supported hawkers in Malad incident also came out in support of the hawkers from Vikhroli area.
“We are against violence but when MNS goondas are threatening the lively hood of hawkers even in front of police then the reaction is natural ,” said the city Congress chief .
Meanwhile police has been alerted that such inflammatory situation can break the peace of the city.
