MUMBAI: Maratha Morcha Women of Mumbai plan to begin hunger strike if state government does not accede to the 15 point charter of demands of Maratha Kranti Morcha. An instruction is said to be given to Mumbai region Maratha Kranti Morcha Unit, according to which the failure of government to accept the Maratha community’s demand will result in hunger strike by Maratha women of Mumbai unit and Maratha Kranti men will support them.
Mumbai administration is gearing to face the mammoth Maratha Kranti Morcha, which was denied permission previously by Mumbai police citing the law and order and traffic problems. Morcha organisers delayed the Morcha, but on August 09, 2017 , this Morcha will be observing one year of continuous silent protest march which began on August 09, 2016 from Aurangabad.
As lakh of Maratha community persons along with their supporters will march from Jija Mata Udyan (usually known as Rani Baugh) Byculla to Azad Maidan and a large number of participants are expected to arrive from Palghar, New Mumbai, Raigarh, Panvel and other areas by various traffic modes including local trains, traffic police has made elaborate arrangements.
The state education department has declared holiday for 500 schools situated in South Mumbai but it is reported that many schools, colleges, offices and organizations will declare unofficial holiday as a precautionary measure.
The Morcha will begin at 10:30 am and the routes are Dr.Baba Saheb Ambedkar Road, Byculla junction (Khada Parsi), Nesbit junction, J.J Fly Over (Hazrat Makhdoom Shah Mahimi Fly over) to Azad Maidan. It is said that a large number of Maratha workers began to came to the city from various districts a day earlier in vehicles.
This has already created traffic jam at Mumbai Pune Express Highway. In South Mumbai, traffic police has banned vehicular traffic along the route, while at many places traffic has been diverted so the motorists will find it very difficult on Wednesday to motor their ways in this part of the city.
Senior traffic police officers have requested the motorists to drive in this area if only there is an emergency, otherwise avoid the travel in South Mumbai.
Due to Morcha North and South bound traffic on both side from J.J.Fly Over (Hazrat Makhdoom Shah Mahimi Flyover) up to CST junction the police has said.
