MUMBAI: When 5 storied Hussaini wala building situated at Pakmodia street collapsed in the morning at 8.30 am , Dawood Ibrahim’s brother Iqbal Ibrahim Kaskar was among the first persons who reached the site to help the victims. Iqbal Kaskar is residing in a building near the site of building collapse.
The Hussianiwala building is situated few blocks away from MusafirKhana, situated in Pakmodia street, which has been a residence of Dawood Ibrahim before he fled to Dubai in 1985. The Raunaq Afroz hotel owned by Dawood Ibrahim, which has been seized by DRI is also located just oppsite the collapsed building.
This building collapsed as the pack of cards. Many residents as well as some employees, staying in the eateries situated at ground floor were trapped in debris. Loud noise of the building collapse sent a wave of fear as people from neighboring buildings began to shout for help.
Many residents from nearby areas ran to help those trapped in the debris. Iqbal Ibrahim Kaskar and his friends were among them. Before the fire brigade personnel could reach, local people began rescue operations as within minute more than 100 volunteers from neighboring Nagpada and Bhindibazaar area joined the rescue operation.
As the building is located near J.J Marg police station, police officers also reached at the site soon. Fire brigade personals from Bhindibazar fire station, Byculla Fire station and other stations also reached , as alert of high level sounded.
A relatively pleasant weather today helped save lives as rescue operation was not hampered by rains. Fortunately, there was no rain today due to which rescue operations continued without any disturbance or distraction.
Police officers from J.J Marg Police Station praised the efforts of local people in helping fire brigade and police to combat with the situation. Since the crowd of spectators was swelling, SRPF was called and deployed in the area for crowd control operation.
