MUMBAI : A massive fire broke out today in Mumbai’s iconic film studio R.K.Studio , which was founded by film star and film maker of some super hit Hindi films of yesteryears Raj kapur and is being run by his sons and their family .
The studio has made a super hit film AAG ( The Fire ) in which Raj Kapur played lead role along with actress Nargis Dutt . The studio was founded in 1948 with the launch film “Aag “meaning fire. Today another fire gutted a land mark stage in the studio.
In those period after independence , major Hindi film studios were situated at Dadar , Parel in central Mumbai , or at Bandra ,Andheri , Malad in western suburbs.But Raj kapur set up his studio in far away eastern suburban area of Chembur in those times .
It is said that the fire broke out on the set of a TV show .Although there was no shooting today , but the fire broke out .Six fire tenders put the flames out and fire was brought under control in 2 hours .
Younger son of late Raj Kapur , actor Rishi Kapur reacted to the incident .He on his twitter account commented ,”Sad a majorfire broke out at R K Studios.We have lost the iconic stage No. 1.Thankfully no casualities or injuries .All your concerns appreciated .”
It is said that set was locked and there was no person at the stage therefore no human loss occurred .But the historical stage used for shooting was gutted .
It is reported that the fire was limited to the ground floor of the stage .
It did not reach to the other sections and buildings having offices , but was controlled by Fire Brigade personnel in time .
It is reported that set belonged to the private producers who were shooting a dance show , titled “UPER DANCERS “ which is to be telecast at Sony TV . Mumbai disaster control group was also pressed into fire control operations.Police rushed additional forces to control the mob which collected out side the studio.Police has registered a case and are investigating the cause of fire .
