On the recommendation of NIA (National Investigation Agency) the government has revoked the passport of Islamic preacher Dr.Zakir Naik. NIA had already booked Dr.Zakir Naik under unlawful activities prevention act for suspicious terror links, which the preacher denies.
The revocation of passport by the regional passport office in Mumbai makes Zakir Naik a stateless person. NIA investigation of Naiks videos, make them believe that his speeches incited youth to commit terror acts. After Zakir Naik failed to respond to multiple notices of NIA to join investigation, they revoked his Passport.
Zakir Naik has been travelling in Gulf, Malaysia and other countries after leaving India last year. Due to revocation of his passport his further movement will be restricted.
NIA had also approached the Interpol, seeking a red corner notice against him, when he left India last year on May 13.
The government had already banned his NGO and taken his channel off air. During the probe NIA has claimed to found 37 properties in the name of Zakir Naik, estimated to be around 100 Crores.
It’s a bold move by the government which is adamant to bring Zakir Naik back to investigate him. While the preacher denies all accusations by the Government and claims to be framed.
