COMPLAINTS AGAINST INCOMPLETE DEONAR SLAUGHTER HOUSE CONTINUE

MUMBAI: Deonar Slaughter House, the only market place for sale of sacrificial goats on the occasion of Eid al Adha is not completely ready even as the arrival of goats as well as purchasers begin on 21st August, 2017 and complaints against unsatisfactory & incomplete work continue. More than three lakh goats are expected to reach the market before Eid.

Visitors saw filth, mud, garbage and wastage in the complex, which made it very difficult to move around in the slaughter house. Rain water collects at several places on the main walk through making it difficult to commute & uneasy to transport.

Shiv Sena Municipal Corporator Haji Halim Khan, along with Chairperson, Markets and Garden Committee of BMC, Mrs.Sanvi Vijay Tandel, visited the slaughter house to get an overview of the work going on in the slaughter house. During their visit, a JCB was employed to fill the pot-holes with debris while visitors were making their way through the filth ridden market.

BMC issues tenders worth Crores of rupees for providing facilities like roads, sheds, toilets and arrangements for removal of garbage. However a visit to the slaughter house mere three days prior to the start of the Goat-buying season saw mismanaged works & unequipped workers trying to force completion of the mess.

Haji Halim Khan sent a written complaint to the Municipal Commissioner Mr. Ajoy Mehta about the grievances public and traders are facing in the slaughter house.

Haji Halim Khan alleged that there was a nexus between ‘M East’ Ward Officials and Contractor in granting the contract of a huge anti-rain shed for keeping goats in the slaughter house.

He alleged irresponsibility by the contractor in erecting the shed and claimed that work has not been completed yet as the sale season of goats began. He warned that due to casual work, there is a high-risk of accident during torrential rain, as shed can collapse at some places due to faulty work practises.

He alleged that some officers in wards are hand in glove with the contractor. He demanded an independent inquiry into the contract and alleged official non performance in completing facilities of slaughter house before time.
