‘BJP Bhagao Desh Bachao’ Campaign for a Maha-Gath-Bandhan in Patna

PATNA: RJD, under the leadership of Lalu Prasad Yadav, began a ‘BJP Bhagao, Desh Bachao’ campaign exhorting citizens of India to save the nation from BJP by removing it from power. The following are some important facts of this campaign:

AIM OF THE RALLY:

This rally aims to unite all opposition parties of India to form a united opposition front. The common slogan has thus been coined as ‘BJP Bhagao, Desh Bachao’.

The opposition formed ‘Mahagathbandhan’, the grand alliance. Initially this rally was planned as an RJD rally, however later on changed into a ‘Maha-Gath-Bandhan’ rally.

Who Are the Supporters?

The supporters of this rally are Mamta Bannerji (Chief Minister of West Bengal), Sharad Yadav (JDU), Akhilesh Yadav (Samajwadi Party), Ghulam Nabi Azad (Congress) among those attending the rally apart from leaders of NCP, CPI, RLD, DMK, Kerala Congress, AIUDF, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, National Conference, Janata Dal Secular.

However Rahul Gandhi, Mayawati & Sitaram Yechuri may not attend the meeting, raising quite a few eyebrows.

SECURITY ARRANGEMENTS IN PATNA:

Violence in Haryana, Punjab & Delhi has put the police in Patna on high alert and security measures have been made on grand scale. More than 6000 policemen have been deployed for security purposes. 64 CCTV cameras have been installed.

CPI-M NOT ATTENDING !!

The cracks in opposition alliance have already appeared before the rally as CPI-M kept itself out of the rally with West Bengal politics being the main reason for it. As Mamta Bannerji is also a prominent guest in this rally, and she is the rival of CPI-M there, the party chose not to attend the rally.

WHERE IS RAHUL GANDHI?
Congres leader Rahul Gandhi did not attend the rally. Rahul Gandhi in in Norway, and his absence also triggered numerous rumors in political circles. However, Congress leader tweeted that he is on an official visit to Norway as he has been invited by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
